The Higher Education Department has acted against hundreds of teachers over serious marking errors in Matric and Intermediate exams, casting doubt on the accuracy and integrity of the evaluation process, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday

Official reports indicate that the names of the accused teachers have been submitted to the School Education Department for further action.

The teachers were initially summoned on July 9; however, they failed to appear before the inquiry committee to present their defense.

The Directorate of Public Instruction (Elementary), Punjab, as a follow-up, has not only re-summoned the teachers to appear on July 14 for inquiry proceedings, but has also strictly instructed the teachers to submit written justifications and ensure their attendance.

The Education Department has warned serious disciplinary measures against those found responsible, following individual hearings.

Sources suggest that one likely penalty is a ban on all future paper marking responsibilities.
