AJK Election Commission reviews preparations for July 27 polls

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has directed officials to ensure strict implementation of the election code of conduct for the upcoming July 27 polls, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal instructed Returning Officers and Deputy Commissioners to strictly enforce the code of conduct and take immediate action against any violations during a high-level meeting to review preparations. 

Officials were also instructed to submit reports of violations to the Election Commission without delay.

Senior Member EC Khawaja Muhammad Ahsan, Member EC Syed Nazir-ul-Hasan Gilani, Secretary EC Raja Muhammad Shakeel Khan, district and deputy commissioners and senior police officials from Neelum and Jehlum valleys were also present at the meeting.

Security arrangements for polling stations were also reviewed to ensure voters can cast their ballots in a peaceful environment.

The EC directed officials to finalise the movement plan for the timely transportation of polling material, ballot boxes and election staff. Comprehensive arrangements for the timely receipt of election results and their transmission to the control room were also discussed.

To ensure the safe transportation of election staff and polling material, assembly points will be established for the best use of available vehicles.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief EC said that the Election Commission is taking all necessary steps to ensure free, fair, transparent and impartial elections. He urged all relevant institutions to play their full role in conducting peaceful and transparent elections.
