Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on Tuesday ended their sit-in outside Adiala Jail after the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan was allowed to meet his wife, Bushra Bibi, according to jail sources.
Speaking to the media at the Factory Checkpoint before the protest concluded, Imran Khan's sister Noreen Khanum criticised the government's economic policies, saying the public was suffering from rising inflation and fuel prices. "We also feel the pain when petrol prices increase. Inflation is rising, and the people are bearing the burden," she said.
She drew attention to the situations in Balochistan and Kashmir, urging the media to focus on both regions. She claimed that people in Balochistan were being killed and alleged that residents of Kashmir were being deprived of food and water while continuing their struggle for their rights.
Commenting on the country's political situation, Noreen Khanum alleged that the voice of the PTI founder had been silenced and criticised the administration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. She claimed that street vendors in Punjab were being removed, people's livelihoods were being affected and heavy charges were being imposed on major hotels through enforcement measures.
Following the development at Adiala Jail, both sisters of the PTI founder, Noreen Niazi and Dr Uzma, ended the sit-in and left Adiala Road. Aleema Khanum did not reach the protest site on Tuesday.
With the conclusion of the demonstration, traffic on Adiala Road was fully restored, while PTI workers who had gathered in the area dispersed and returned.
According to jail sources, the PTI founder was allowed to meet Bushra Bibi in accordance with the jail manual. The meeting, held in the jail's conference room, lasted approximately 30 minutes, during which health and legal matters were discussed.
After the meeting concluded, both the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were taken back to their respective cells, jail sources said.
