The United States (US) Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the cancellation of consular appointments in Abu Dhabi and warned of disruptions to services in Dubai because of the prevailing security situation, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

In a statement, the embassy said all consular appointments scheduled in Abu Dhabi between 13 and 15 July had been cancelled. Applicants with appointments during this period have been advised not to visit the embassy.

The embassy said passport services and other emergency consular assistance would continue to be provided through email where necessary. Officials also confirmed that consular services in Dubai would be affected by the security measures.

The statement added that non-emergency US government personnel had been relocated from the United Arab Emirates as a precaution. Routine US visa services have also been suspended until further notice.

The embassy said applicants would be contacted directly regarding the rescheduling of their appointments once normal operations resume.
