Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that people who donate blood voluntarily are not just helping one individual or a family, but serving the whole society as true benefactors.

She made these remarks in her message on International Blood Donor Day, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday..

In her statement, the Chief Minister urged the public, especially young people, to take an active part in the noble cause of blood donation. She said that every person who donates blood for a good cause deserves respect and appreciation.

She further said that citizens can register themselves as blood donors through the Safe City website or by visiting the nearest police service centre.

This step, she added, is aimed at making the donation process easier and more organised across the province, she said.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif also highlighted that Punjab has the distinction of establishing Pakistan’s first formal virtual blood bank.

She explained that by calling emergency helpline 15 and pressing button 4, people can connect directly to the virtual blood bank system.

According to her, the virtual blood bank allows direct contact between patients in need and registered blood donors, ensuring timely support during medical emergencies.

She added that this system is designed to save lives by reducing delays in finding suitable blood donors.

Referring to global standards, she noted that the World Health Organization World Health Organization has stated that the availability of safe blood is an essential part of a strong healthcare system.
