A disturbing incident has been reported from India’s Uttar Pradesh state, where a father allegedly killed his 19-year-old daughter inside a police station after she refused to end her love marriage, 24NewsHD TV on Sunday.
According to foreign media reports, the victim, identified as Shivani, had married her neighbour Lalit Verma on May 18 at a temple and later registered the marriage legally.
The couple had reportedly gone into hiding after the groom’s family filed a police complaint, prompting authorities to trace and detain them from Madhya Pradesh.
During police questioning, the couple stated that they had married of their own free will and also submitted relevant legal documents confirming their union.
Police officials said the couple was brought in for counselling and medical examination at the police station.
However, during the session, the woman’s parents arrived and attempted to pressure her into returning home.
When Shivani refused and insisted on staying with her husband, her father allegedly attacked her with a knife inside the police station.
She sustained serious injuries and later died during treatment.
Police confirmed that the accused father has been arrested and a case has been registered.
