Thousands celebrate colourful culture and sport at Shandur Mela

The three-day Shandur Polo Festival concluded after three days of colourful celebrations, bringing an end to one of the region's most anticipated cultural and sporting events.

The festival was organised with the support of the Pakistan Army, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The final day featured the championship polo match between traditional rivals Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. Gilgit-Baltistan delivered an impressive performance to defeat Chitral and claim the traditional title after 13 years.

The closing ceremony was attended by the corps commander, Peshawar, as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he described the festival as a symbol of national unity and cultural harmony.

Paragliding displays, cultural activities and tableaux presented by schoolchildren attracted significant attention from participants during the event.

Attendees described the Shandur Polo Festival as an important platform for promoting tourism and highlighting the positive image of regional culture.
