The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched an investigation on Friday against actor and model Nadia Hussain under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly making baseless claims against the agency.
The investigation follows an Instagram post made by Nadia a day earlier, where she accused a man impersonating an FIA officer of attempting to defraud her. This incident comes shortly after the arrest of Nadia’s husband, Atif Khan, in a multi-million rupee financial fraud case last week.
In her post, Nadia claimed that a man posing as an FIA officer demanded a Rs30 million bribe for her husband’s bail. She said the caller insisted the matter should remain private. Although Nadia initially almost believed the caller, she quickly realized the situation was a scam.
Nadia further stated that she had reported the fraudulent call to the FIA and planned to speak to NADRA officials about how easily her family's personal details were accessible to others.
Rather than addressing the fraudulent call, however, the FIA’s cybercrime wing initiated an investigation into Nadia for allegedly making unfounded accusations. A spokesperson for the FIA confirmed the fraud call, noting that the impersonator had used the picture of a senior officer as his display photo on Instagram. The actor was informed about the scam when she approached the FIA, and she was instructed to file a complaint with the cybercrime wing.
The spokesperson emphasized that spreading unfounded allegations against the FIA without evidence would not be tolerated, and accused Nadia of attempting to tarnish the agency's reputation.
In response, Nadia revealed that an FIA team had visited her home to inquire about the fraudulent call and her social media post. “I have provided all the details about the incident to the FIA officials,” she said. She clarified that her post clearly identified the call as a scam and confirmed that she was not taken into custody. Nadia also mentioned that she had been asked to record her statement next week.
