Model, actress and businesswoman Emma Heming Willis has launched a new charitable initiative aimed at supporting dementia research and helping families caring for loved ones with the disease, drawing inspiration from her husband Bruce Willis and his ongoing health battle.
According to announcements shared on social media, the forty seven year old introduced The Emma and Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support, a philanthropic effort designed to raise awareness, fund medical research and provide resources for caregivers.
Heming Willis said her family’s personal experience with Frontotemporal Dementia has revealed the difficult reality many families face when supporting someone living with the condition.
She highlighted the emotional uncertainty, daily challenges and the strength shown by caregivers who support patients throughout the illness.
The initiative is being launched in collaboration with the Entertainment Industry Foundation and will focus on advancing research, improving education and strengthening support systems for caregivers dealing with dementia related illnesses.
The announcement comes several years after Willis’ family publicly revealed his diagnosis.
In 2023, relatives confirmed that the Hollywood star, best known for the action franchise Die Hard, had developed frontotemporal dementia after initially being diagnosed with Aphasia, a neurological disorder that affects communication abilities.
Earlier this week, Heming Willis also accepted the Susan and Si Newhouse Award of Hope during the Hope Rising Benefit hosted by the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
The award recognizes individuals who play a significant role in raising awareness and improving support for those affected by the condition.
Beyond advocacy work, Heming Willis has also shared guidance for caregivers through her book, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, where she discusses the emotional and practical challenges faced by families navigating dementia.
Through the new fund, Heming Willis hopes to push forward research efforts while ensuring caregivers receive the recognition and support they often need but rarely receive.
