In a significant diplomatic gesture following recent escalations, Pakistan and India conducted a prisoner exchange at the Wagah-Attari border on Wednesday.
Pakistan released Indian Border Security Force (BSF) constable Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in custody for nearly three weeks after inadvertently crossing into Pakistani territory.
In return, India handed over Muhammad Ullah, a member of the Punjab Rangers, to Pakistani authorities.
Security sources explained that both individuals had been apprehended for violating border protocols.
The prisoner swap comes in the aftermath of a communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.
On May 12, the two sides established contact and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control, a move widely seen as an attempt to reduce tensions along the volatile border.
