Rejecting three petitions filed against the sentences given by military courts, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday ruled that the verdicts pronounced by these courts were as per law, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A week ago, the Supreme Court's constitutional bench had upheld the military court convictions of PTI activists, accused of attacking military installations on May 9, 2023, by five judges to two.

In its order, the majority also urged the parliament to consider amending the Pakistan Army Act to grant civilians convicted by military courts an independent right of appeal.

Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan also set aside the earlier judgment delivered on October 23, 2023.

Justice Jamal Mandokhel and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan had written dissenting notes.
