Miscellaneous petitions have been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking an early hearing of the sentence suspension petitions of lawyer and activist Iman Mazari and Hadi Chatha in the controversial tweets case.
According to the petitions, the applicants requested the court to fix the sentence suspension pleas for hearing during the week commencing on May 18, 2026.
The petitions stated that the Supreme Court of Pakistan, on May 12, had directed the Islamabad High Court to decide the pending suspension of sentence petitions at the earliest.
It was further submitted that the apex court had specifically ordered the high court to decide the petitions within two weeks.
The applicants maintained that despite the passage of considerable time, the sentence suspension petitions had not been fixed before any bench since February 27.
According to the petitions, both petitioners have remained incarcerated since January 24, 2026, arguing that the continued delay in hearing the pleas was contrary to the requirements of justice and fair trial principles.
The miscellaneous petitions were filed through advocates Faisal Siddiqui, Zainab Janjua and Muhammad Jibran Nasir.
The court is expected to take up the matter regarding the fixation of the suspension of sentence petitions in the coming days.
