The Punjab men’s weightlifting team for the 35th National Games Karachi has been finalized after trials held at the Elite Training Centre on Friday, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to Pakistan Weightlifting Federation Media Coordinator Sohail Javed Butt, more than 52 weightlifters from Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Gujrat participated in the selection trials.
In the 60kg category, Farhan Jamil of Gujranwala secured first position with a total lift of 249kg, while Aziz Sarwar and Muhammad Sameer Khan, both from Lahore, stood second and third.
Musab Sethi of Gujranwala topped the 65kg category.
In the 71kg class, Lahore’s Aamir Ali claimed first position, followed by Saud Zia of Faisalabad and Muhammad Arsalan of Gujranwala.
Hamza from Lahore won the 79kg category, with Muhammad Mudabbir and Abdul Qadir, both from Gujranwala, finishing behind him.
In the 88kg class, Furqan Ahmed of Gujranwala took first place, while Muhammad Essa Adnan of Lahore and Arman Butt of Faisalabad followed.
The 94kg category was won by Lahore’s Danish Butt, with Ghulam Ali of Sialkot and Uzair Ahmed of Lahore securing the next two spots.
Usama from Faisalabad won the 110kg division, while Mubashir from Lahore finished second.
In the 110kg+ category, Muhammad Ahmed Butt of Lahore took first position, followed by Muhammad Yahya of Gujranwala.
The trials were inaugurated by DG Sports Board Punjab Khizer Afzal Chaudhry, accompanied by Rana Nadeem Anjum and Hafeez Bhatti.
Officials present on the occasion included Abdul Sattar Rahi, Muhammad Zahoor, Amir Akbar, Asim Akbar, Amir Ali, Anjum Roheel Butt, Kashif Ali, Abdullah Sohail Butt, Tariq Azam, Waseem Akram, Usman Aqeel Butt, Zaheer Akram, Hafiz Imran Azezi, Nailah Maqsood Butt, Aina Akbar, Muneeba Imtiaz, and Amna Babar.
Aqeel Javed Butt, General Secretary of the Punjab Weightlifting Association, served as the organising secretary of the trials.
