Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Sunday that more than 30,000 people were evacuated from the katcha area, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to the media in Kashmore, he said he was thankful to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for announcing an agriculture emergency in the flood-hit areas. “So far, no big loss has been reported from anywhere in the province.”
The chief minister said that relief camps had been set up, but the flood victims were reluctant to live there and preferred to stay with their friends and families. “Medical camps have been set up where the affected people are provided treatment,” he said, adding, “Animals in the katcha area are also being vaccinated against diseases.”
He informed that boats were provided to the people living in the katcha area.
He further said that a lot of work was done on strengthening weak embankments from 2010 to 2025.
Praising the Pakistan Army and the Pakistan Navy, CM Murad said that their personnel stood shoulder to shoulder with the provincial government in these testing times.
He said that now when monsoon spells were over and water levels were dropping in rivers, there was no imminent danger to Sindh.
The chief minister informed that those displaced by floods would be compensated under the Benazir Income Support Programme.
He lamented that due to climate change, there were floods in the province every few years.
