The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Rao Abdul Karim, has removed 588 policemen from their posts due to their involvement in corruption, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Police sources said that among the 588 policemen, 178 were suspended and 53 were dismissed from service.
The sources further revealed that action was taken against 56 policemen from Lahore, 37 from Rahim Yar Khan, Multan 30, Nankana Sahib 27, and Bhakkar 25.
Those who were removed over corruption included 154 sub-inspectors and 123 ASIs. 52 head constables, 147 constables, and 44 traffic police personnel.
The sources said that action was taken after receiving 185 pieces of secret information and 69 complaints from citizens.
These officials were facing charges of providing facilitation to drug traffickers and adulterating information and supervision of drug trafficking.
Inspector-General of Police Rao Abdul Karim directed strict monitoring of Integrity Checks in all the licensing offices and police stations.
