The family of a man accused of murdering 21-year-old Christian woman Saba in the limits of Ratta Amral Police Station has disputed the police case, claiming that the victim’s brother fired the fatal shot.
According to the FIR, accused Adnan Butt allegedly shot Saba dead, while police registered the murder case at Ratta Amral Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
However, Adnan’s family has rejected the allegation and presented a different account of the incident.
The family claimed that Saba and Adnan had been in a relationship for about six months and that she had been living separately in Bahria Town for several months after returning from her second marriage.
According to the accused’s family, on the day of the incident Saba’s brother Anosh took Adnan from his home on a motorcycle and brought him to a location where Saba was lying by the roadside in an intoxicated condition.
The family claimed that Adnan and Anosh then took Saba to her parents’ house, where two of her uncles were present.
Adnan’s sister alleged that Saba’s uncle and brother asked Adnan to shoot her, but he refused.
She further claimed that Anosh then pulled out a pistol and that Adnan tried to stop him.
According to her account, Anosh allegedly fired a shot that struck Saba in the forehead and killed her.
The accused’s family claimed that Anosh later travelled with Adnan to Shalay Valley following the incident.
The family further alleged that Saba’s parents initially intended to bury her the following day, but police intervention led to the registration of the murder case against Adnan.
According to Adnan’s family, police first detained his brother-in-law Waheed and later arrested Adnan from Dhok Hassu on the night of September 9.
“Our brother Adnan Butt did not kill Saba,” his sister claimed, alleging that Saba’s brother was responsible for the killing.
The family also claimed that Adnan and Waheed had remained in police custody and expressed fear that they could be killed in a staged encounter.
They appealed to Punjab Chief Minister, senior police officials and the higher judiciary to intervene and called for geo-fencing of the area where the incident occurred.
The family also demanded that Adnan and Waheed be produced before a court.
Police records, however, name Adnan as the accused in Saba’s murder, according to the FIR registered on the complaint of her brother.
The competing claims could not immediately be independently verified.
