Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb attended a meeting of Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors and Heads of Regional Financial Institutions of the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAP) region chaired by the IMF Managing Director on the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings 2026.
In his address, the Finance Minister said that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East as one of the major supply shocks in recent history. He outlined the steps taken by the government to address its initial impacts, including adjustments to import strategies, pricing systems, and logistics.
Senator Aurangzeb reiterated that the government is moving towards targeted support rather than broad-based subsidies to protect the vulnerable segments of society. He said that the government, in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan, is assessing the secondary and tertiary impacts of the crisis, including inflation, economic growth, exports, remittances and the current account.
The Finance Minister said that Pakistan has entered this global uncertainty with strong policy foundations and has learned important lessons from past shocks, especially the recent floods. He reiterated the government’s commitment to continue implementing its reform agenda, saying that necessary policy changes will be made responsibly and there will be no compromise on economic stability.
