Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has activated Gabd Border Terminal for the Transit International Roads (TIR) system.
This important development will further boost Pakistan’s regional trade relations through Iran.
Access to Central Asia through Iran is shorter, safer and more modern than the traditional Afghanistan route.
A short and effective alternative corridor through Iran has ensured Pakistan’s access to Central Asia and eliminated its dependence on Afghanistan.
This milestone was achieved by preferential handling and clearance of meat containers sent from Karachi to Tashkent.
After customs clearance, the consignment was sent to Uzbekistan via Iran under the TIR framework.
NLC has activated several trade corridors to China, Iran, Central Asian states and other countries.
To regularize Pak-Iran trade, NLC opened Gabd in March 2024 Border terminal was built.
According to economic experts, strategically, this important development can now increase exports to Central Asia through Iran after China.
The new route has reduced the distance, reduced logistics costs, improved trade and eliminated dependence on Afghanistan.
This move will make Pakistan a regional connectivity hub and provide direct access to Central Asian markets.
The Gabd-Rimdan corridor, located near Gwadar Port, is expected to emerge as an important trade corridor in the future.
