Punjab government has tabled The Stamp Amendment Ordinance 2026 in the Punjab Assembly session. The Punjab Forensic Science Authority Amendment Bill 2026 was presented in the assembly. Both bills were referred to the relevant committees for two months.
Addressing the session during the question hour session, Provincial Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said the government has introduced the capital value system. He said in most countries of the world, property tax is based on capital value.
Under this system, a clear value of the property is set. This eliminates the arbitrary power of the officers. Every citizen knows how much tax he has to pay according to the value. This method significantly reduces corruption.
Mujtaba said people do not come under pressure or misguidance from anyone. “We have made the entire excise system online. The direct contact with the online system has reduced”.
He said that this step has reduced the opportunities for corruption to a great extent. The tax has not been increased much in the new system.
He said that the tax increase is set at around 10 to 20 percent. This increase is modest. He said, “after five years, the new value of the property is reviewed. A modest tax is applied based on this value”.
