Heavy monsoon rains coupled with cloud and glacial lake bursts triggered landslides, mudslides and flash floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing 195 people during the last 24 hours which include 147 men, twelve children and eight women, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that more than 185 people have died and 28 others got injured in heavy rains and flood related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir areas during the past 24hours, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
21 people were killed and 18 bodies were recovered due to cloudburst and lightning in Bajaur's Tehsil Salarzai. Deputy Commissioner Bajaur Shahid Ali said children and women are also among the dead. 4 houses were destroyed in the accident.
According to details released by NDMA, during the last twenty four hours, 171 people were killed in KP, 24 in Azad Kashmir, nine people in Gilgit Baltistan. The majority of the deaths, 146, including 124 men, 10 women and 12 children, were recorded in five districts of mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the province's Disaster Management Authority.
In Buner alone, 78 people died due to landsliding and floods, 21 dead and six were missing in landsliding after a cloudburst washed away several homes in Bajaur, 14 bodies were retrieved after flash flood washed away many people in Mansehra, 15 died in Battagram incidents, 11 deaths reported in Swat, five dead in Lower Dir roof collapse and a man died in Shangla.
More than 40 houses and schools were damaged in the floods and landslides.
Seven more people were killed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, regional disaster management authorities said, while two died in Gilgit Baltistan.
The meteorological department has also issued a heavy rain alert for the northwest, urging people to avoid "unnecessary exposure to vulnerable areas".
The annual monsoon season brings South Asia about three-quarters of its rainfall, vital for agriculture and food security, but it also brings destruction.
The torrential rains that have pounded Pakistan since the start of the summer monsoon, described as "unusual" by authorities, have killed more than 320 people, nearly half of them children.
Most of the deaths were caused by collapsing houses, flash floods and electrocutions.
In July, Punjab, home to nearly half of Pakistan's 255 million people, recorded 73 percent more rainfall than the previous year and more deaths than in the entire previous monsoon.
Landslides and flash floods are common during the monsoon season, which usually begins in June and eases by the end of September. But scientists say climate change has made weather events around the world more extreme and more frequent.
In 2022, monsoon floods submerged a third of the country and killed 1,700 people.
Pakistan is one of the world's most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change, and its 255 million residents are facing extreme weather events with increasing frequency.
21 die after cloudburst in Bajaur
As many as 21 people died and three injured while four houses were completely destroyed after a cloudburst and landsliding in tehsil Salarzai of Bajaur District.
According to the local administration, the bodies had been pulled out from underneath the rubble, while three injured people were shifted to a hospital.
Several roads were also blocked following landslides in the area.
Local residents said 11 people were still missing after this terrible incident.
Five die in Lower Dir
Five people, including women and children, were killed while four others were injured after the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rains in Lower Dir on Thursday.
Soon after the incident, the employees of Rescue 1122 and Al-Khidmat Foundation rushed to the site and removed the bodies as well as the injured from underneath the rubble.

14 die in Mansehra roof collapse, car incident
At least 14 people were killed in a cloud burst in Village Dheri Haleem in Battal area of Mansehra.
Police said so far bodies of nine people including six men, two women and a little girl were retrieved.
Dozens of houses destroyed and a large number of cattle was swept away by the floodwater.
A woman and her daughter were killed after the roof of their house caved in in Khairabad area of Garhi Habibullah in Mansehra.
Rescue operation was underway till last reports came in.
Meanwhile, two people were killed while one was injured when the car they were travelling in was swept away by floodwater at Basyan near Balakot in Mansehra.
As many as six people were sitting in the car when the calamity struck them.
Teams of the Rescue 1122 saved the lives of four people.
30-year-old Mir Hamza and 25-year-old Asad were those killed in the incident.
GB glacial lakes burst
A number of people were reported missing after several glacial lake burst in Gilgit Baltistan.
Five people including a woman were swept away by gushing waters in Ghadar. Seven people went missing in Gopus Khilty while two bodies were recovered.
River Indus bursts its banks in Chilas
As many as six to eight houses were submerged under the water, while there were fears of dozens more houses getting affected as the River Indus burst its banks in Chilas.
Residents of the area built embankments on their own as no one from the authorities came to their rescue.
The affected people appealed to the government to provide them relief items and shift them to safe places.
AJK cloud burst
Flash flood caused by cloud burst caused widespread destruction in Azad Kashmir. Six people reported killed in Naseerabad.
Dozens of houses, bridges and roads were decimated by the gushing floodwater.
Bridges, guesthouses washed away in Neelum
Three bridges and two guesthouses were washed away following a deluge in Neelum Valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to a cloudburst.
The water levels were exceedingly high in River Neelum and Nullah Jagran.
A motorcycle of a tourist was washed away after the water from Ratti Galli nullah spilled over into the land.
The water also damaged a two-kilometer stretch of a road.

AJK minister among 500 stuck in Neelum
Meanwhile, due to the severing of road links, 500 people, mostly tourists, including AJK Minister for Information, got stranded in Base Camp.
Rescue 1122 employees managed to shift 60 tourists to safe places.
NDMA said during the last three months, 498 people died in monsoon related rains and floods in the country. The highest number of deaths (242) were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 164 deaths in Punjab, 28 in Sindh, 20 in Balochistan, 24 deaths in Gilgit-Baltistan, 12 in Azad Kashmir and 8 deaths were reported from Islamabad.
Army launches relief, rescue operation
Pakistan Army has started relief and rescue operation in heavy rains and flood hit areas of Swat and shifted civilians and school children to safer places.
In a video, a Pakistan Army soldier can be seen carrying a school child on his back and shifting him to a safe place. This spirit of the Pakistan Army soldiers won the hearts of the entire nation.
In severe floods situation Swat, Pak Army soldiers participated in timely and courageous relief operations. The affected people were evacuated from the flooded areas and shifted to safer places.
Rescue operation proved that the soldiers of the Pakistan Army were ready to help the people in difficult situation. Pakistan Army is seen standing by the people in defense of the homeland as well as in natural disasters. During hard times, Army jawans set high examples of humanitarian service and thousands of lives were saved thanks to the professionalism and spirit of sacrifice of the Army.
Three youth rescued in Balakot
Three youth, who had been left stranded between two streams in Balakot, were rescued by the employees of Rescue 1122.
Traffic suspended due to landslides in Swat
Traffic had to be suspended on Malam Jabba Road in Swat due to landslides, prompting the administration to urge tourists to avoid travelling.
The removal of debris was underway till last reports came in.

Two young sisters died of electrocution after they touched a ceiling fan at their home in Toba Tek Singh.
Crops flooded in Arifwala
River Sutlej burst its banks at Arifwala as 45,000 cusecs of water entered agricultural fields, destroying crops sown over dozens of acres.
River Indus in low flood at Taunsa
Meanwhile, the water level in the River Indus at Taunsa Barrage in Kot Addu has again started to rise as the river is in low flood in the area.
According to the Irrigation Department, the inflow of water at the site has been recorded at over 277,000 cusecs, while the outflow at over 261,000 cusecs.
The department has further said that 500 cusecs of water is being supplied to Khichi Canal; 1,000 cusecs to TP Link Canal; 6,800 cusecs to DG Khan Canal, while 8,000 cusecs to Muzaffargarh Canal.
Roads blocked
According to a National Highway Authority (NHA) spokesperson, the Jaglot-Skardu Road has been blocked at four separate points, including Jinnah Nullah, Chamcho, Malopa, and Baghicha, where two-way traffic remains suspended due to landslides.
Floodwaters have also halted vehicular movement near the Sultanabad Bridge, the spokesperson added.
NHA teams are on-site carrying out relief and clearance operations, and traffic flow has already been restored in Balakot, Paras, and Paghil. Efforts are underway to reopen the road in Jhal Khad.
All relief operations are being monitored from the control room established at the NHA headquarters. As per the directions of the Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, the NHA Chairman, Shehryar Sultan, is personally overseeing the ongoing activities.
PM Shehbaz orders accelerated rescue operation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the rescue operation in Battagram district, after a cloudburst caused deaths and a flood situation.
The prime minister, in a statement, expressed grief over the deaths and prayed for peace for those who lost their lives in the flash flood. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength for them to bear the loss.
The prime minister also directed the provision of immediate and all possible medical assistance to the injured.
President expresses grief
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives due to recent rains and flash floods in various parts of the country.
In a statement, the president extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the departed souls to be granted the highest ranks in Jannah.
He directed the relevant authorities to expedite relief efforts in the affected areas and ensure that all necessary measures are taken for the assistance and rehabilitation of those affected. “All possible steps must be taken to provide relief and support to the affected people,” the president emphasized.
The president also instructed that immediate medical aid should be provided to the injured.
