Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Hilal-e-Jurat, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), has issued special directives for the full-scale rehabilitation of flood-affected communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), security sources said Friday.
The Army Chief assured that troops stationed in KP would fully assist in relief and rehabilitation efforts, with additional military contingents being dispatched to bolster operations. In a significant gesture, the Pakistan Army has pledged one day’s salary for the cause, while also allocating one day’s worth of rations – amounting to over 600 tons – for flood relief.
COAS Munir instructed the Corps of Engineers to urgently repair damaged bridges and set up temporary structures wherever required.
The Army’s Rescue Sniffing Dog Unit from the Ninth Unit and the Special Urban Search and Rescue Team are also being deployed for ongoing search and rescue missions.
Army helicopters and aviation assets are already operational in the affected areas, delivering aid and evacuating stranded residents.
“The Pakistan Army stands shoulder to shoulder with the resilient people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in every hour of difficulty,” security sources quoted the Army Chief as saying.
