Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff says his phone “nearly exploded” after Taylor Swift casually mentioned his name on the hugely popular New Heights podcast earlier this week.
Speaking to reporters , the 30-year-old NFL star described the unexpected rush of attention that followed the shoutout from the pop superstar. “Yeah, pretty crazy, huh? Very cool, I guess,” Goff said. “That was a crazy couple hours last night for me and my phone. I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ But yeah, pretty cool.”
Swift, 35, was a special guest on the Wednesday, August 13 episode of New Heights, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce, 35, and his brother Jason Kelce, 37. During the conversation, the “Shake It Off” hitmaker joked about her limited knowledge of NFL matchups before dating Travis.
“I thought it was like, Jared Goff is here, and Josh Allen’s here,” Swift said. “They’re gonna blow a whistle, and they go at each other, and it’s like ‘grrrr,’ and who’s gonna win?”
The singer also poked fun at the mixed reaction she’s received from some “male sports fans” since becoming a regular fixture at Kansas City Chiefs games. “If there’s one thing male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens — it’s more of me,” she quipped.
The long-anticipated interview wasn’t just about football. Swift used the episode to reveal the cover and tracklist of her upcoming 12th studio album, Life of a Showgirl. She shared that the record was largely created in collaboration with Max Martin and Shellback during her Eras Tour in Europe.
Within 24 hours, the podcast episode racked up over 13 million views on YouTube — and gave Goff an unexpected viral moment of his own.
