The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on a bail plea filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan for tomorrow morning (Feb 16), reported 24NewsHd Tv channel.
The PTI chief had filed a petition before the LHC for his protective bail after an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad rejected Imran Khan's bail in a case regarding a protest in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after he failed to appear before the court.
The ATC court summoned Imran Khan in person to appear before the court today. But the PTI chief chose not to appear before the court. Instead, his lawyer filed an application on his behalf seeking his exemption from court appearance on medical grounds.
The Lahore High Court's judge Justice Tariq Saleem Shaikh heard the case.
The court ruled that as per the law, Imran Khan needed to surrender before the concerned court to obtain protective bail.
Imran's counsel apprised the court that the PTI chief seeks bail on medical grounds as doctors have advised him three-week rest.
"Imran Khan has survived an assassination attempt. There are serious threats to his life," the counsel further appealed.
To this, the court directed the Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab to provide fool-proof security to the PTI chief and make his appearance before the court possible. The court then summoned Imran Khan by 8 pm Wednesday and adjourned the hearing.
As the clock struck 8:00 pm and Imran did not appear before the court. The court
adjourned the proceeding of the case till tomorrow.
Earlier, PTI central leader Fawad Chaudhry said that Imran Khan will appear in the Lahore High Court for bail.
“Imran Khan is injured and cannot walk properly,” he added while talking to the media persons at Zaman Park.
He said that it was decided in the meeting that Imran Khan will not appear physically in the court. The doctors had forbidden him to walk due to his bullet wounds.
Former Sindh governor Imran Ismail recalled that Imran had attended the Rawalpindi rally with injuries that affected his recovery badly.
