Sugar prices continued their upward trend across the country and are being sold at Rs200 per kilo in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
In different areas of Punjab, sugar is being sold for Rs180 to Rs195 per kilo.
In Multan, sugar prices have reached Rs190 to Rs200 per kilo, despite the fact that the government had fixed the price at Rs90 per kilogram.
In the wholesale market, the sugar is available at Rs180 per kilogram.
In Faisalabad, the sugar price maintained an upward trend and is being sold for Rs180 per kilogram at local grocery stores.
A shopkeeper said that only one or two sacks of sugar are available. He further said that it's impossible to purchase sugar at higher rates and later sell it at cheaper rates.
A local resident said that the government has miserably failed to provide any relief to the common man. He stated that after the increase in the prices of petrol, gas, and electricity, the prices of daily essential commodities have also skyrocketed.
