A solemn ceremony was held at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad to mark the 15 July 2016 Solidarity and Democracy Day, commemorating the sacrifices of Turkish martyrs during the failed coup attempt.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Federal Minister and IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan was the chief guest at the Turkish ceremony.
The event began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Turkey, followed by a one-minute silence observed in honour of the martyrs. Pakistan’s strong solidarity with Turkey was reiterated in speeches by key dignitaries.
Abdul Aleem Khan remarked that Turkey and Pakistan share unbreakable bonds, and they have always stood by each other in times of crisis.
He said, “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s leadership deserves our deepest respect. The resilience and unity shown by the Turkish people 9 years ago remains a model for the world.”
He added, “Pakistan-Turkey relations are rooted in brotherhood, loyalty, and shared sacrifices. Both nations are tied in cooperation, trade, and development agreements — their unity ensures regional peace and prosperity.”
He said, “Turkish people are close to our hearts. I feel proud whenever I visit Turkey.”
On this occasion, Turkish Ambassador Dr Irfan Naziroglu said, “We remember our martyrs who laid down their lives to protect democracy. The events of July 15, 2016, demonstrated the strength and unity of the Turkish nation.”
The event concluded with a renewed pledge from both sides to enhance bilateral relations and stand united against threats to democracy and stability.
