The police in Karachi have arrested three accused including the prime suspect in connection with the murder Dr Akash Kumar in Clifton area two days ago during a dacoity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The robbers killed the 28-year-old Hindu doctor for resisting them and then fled.
Addressing media men in Karachi on Wednesday, DIG South Asad Raza said a special police team arrested the accused within 36 hours of the incident, using technical expertise to trace them.
He said the police also recovered arms and mobile from the accused and the vehicle which was used in the incident. During interrogation, the accused have confessed to killing the doctor, the police officer added.
The DIG said raid were continuing to apprehend the remaining accused.
He said the accused carried out recce before committing the crime and their informer inside the bank alerted them about the Rs50 million cash the doctor was carrying.
On Tuesday, Jamshoro district police had arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Dr Akash in Karachi, and handed them over to Karachi police for further investigation.
A police official confirmed that the suspects - Ram Chand, a resident of Daharki, and Sagar Kumar from Sukkur - were apprehended while they were travelling along the highway.
According to the official, Karachi police identified the suspects through CCTV footage after Dr Akash was allegedly shot dead outside a private bank on Monday. The two suspects were kept at A-Section Police Station, Jamshoro, before being handed over to Karachi police.
The arrests came after protests by Dr Akash's family, community members and supporters, who blocked the Teen Talwar intersection following the daylight killing and demanded immediate action against those responsible. Protesters had pointed out that the incident was captured by multiple CCTV cameras.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited the protesters to offer condolences and express solidarity, assuring them that the suspects would be arrested within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the last rites of Dr Akash were performed in Karachi on Tuesday. His funeral was held at Royal Residency near Cantt Station, after which his body was taken to a crematorium in Old Golimar, where he was cremated according to Hindu religious traditions.
A large number of doctors, community members, relatives and friends attended the funeral and paid their final respects. Dr Akash was the eldest among five siblings and was unmarried.
