The government's adviser to the Ministry of Finance, Khurram Shehzad, has said Pakistan has repaid Rs4.722 trillion in debt ahead of schedule during fiscal year 2025-26, 24NewsHD TV reported.
In a post on X, Shehzad said the government made Rs4,722 billion in prepayments during FY2025-26, calling it an unprecedented and sustained effort to reduce the country's debt burden.

He said the move was not merely an early repayment of loans but part of a broader strategy to lower financial risks and improve debt management.
According to him, the prepayment will help reduce debt servicing costs and strengthen the country's fiscal position.
Shehzad added that the record early repayment reflects a fundamental shift toward greater macroeconomic stability and demonstrates the government's commitment to prudent fiscal management and long-term economic sustainability.
