PM Shehbaz bids farewell to SAARC secretary general, reaffirms support for regional cooperation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as he received the organisation's outgoing Secretary General, Ambassador Muhammad Ghulam Sarwar, for a farewell call at the Prime Minister's House.

During the meeting, the prime minister appreciated Ambassador Sarwar's dedicated services and leadership in promoting regional cooperation throughout his tenure as SAARC secretary general.

Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the SAARC Charter and underscored the need to revitalise regional cooperation to enhance connectivity, promote sustainable development and ensure shared prosperity for the people of South Asia.

The prime minister also conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Sarwar for his future endeavours.

Ambassador Sarwar thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the support extended by Pakistan during his tenure as chair of SAARC and expressed appreciation for the country's continued commitment to the regional organisation.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of strengthening regional collaboration to address shared challenges and advance economic and social development across South Asia.
