The Punjab Assembly’s parliamentary judicial committee has decided to issue a formal show-cause notice to Kasur District Police Officer Aftab Ahmed Phularwan in what officials described as the first meeting of such a committee in the Assembly’s history.
Phularwan appeared before the committee and said he had not been served a summons in accordance with the prescribed rules.
The committee rejected the explanation and directed the Punjab Assembly secretary’s office to prepare a formal show-cause notice.
After receiving the notice, the Kasur DPO is expected to appear before the committee again on Monday and submit a written response.
Committee members attending the meeting included Shaukat Raja, Noorul Amin Wattoo, Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain Chachhar, Malik Nausher Khan, Muhammad Ashraf Rasool and Amjad Ali Javed.
The matter was initially raised before the Punjab Assembly’s Privileges Committee by Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Syed Ali Haider Gilani.
Inspector General of Police Punjab and the Kasur DPO later appeared before the Privileges Committee as part of its inquiry.
The Privileges Committee subsequently referred the matter to the parliamentary judicial committee for further proceedings.
