Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today for Muharram moon-sighting

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet today (Monday) to sight the moon of the new Islamic year, Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 Hijri, in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad at Iqbal Hall of the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, where testimonies regarding the moon sighting received from across the country will be reviewed.

At the same time, the Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Islamabad will hold its meeting at the Kohsar Block in Islamabad, while meetings of zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also take place simultaneously in different cities across the country.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram moon after examining reports received from different parts of the country and the findings of the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The decision regarding the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 Hijri moon will be made in light of testimonies received from across the country.

The moon will be twelve hours old at the time of the Ruet-e-Hilal committee meeting, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum age of the moon for visibility must be eighteen hours.

According to SUPARCO, astronomical data suggests that the chances of sighting the Muharram-ul-Haram moon on the evening of June 15, 2026, are extremely low. It is expected that the first day of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 Hijri will fall on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
