Dog-bite cases continue to rise across Karachi, with health officials reporting more than 100 new cases daily at various hospitals amid growing concerns over the increasing number of stray dogs in the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.
According to officials, the Sindh Government Hospital Korangi alone is receiving between 15 and 20 dog-bite victims every day.
Rabies clinic in-charge Mansoor Ali said injured individuals arriving at the hospital are provided immediate medical treatment and anti-rabies vaccinations before being discharged.
The issue gained renewed attention after a suspected rabid dog reportedly attacked and injured 14 children in Orangi Town. Hospital officials said all the injured children were given prompt medical assistance and necessary vaccinations before being sent home.
Residents of the affected areas expressed concern over the growing stray dog population and urged authorities to launch an effective campaign to eliminate the threat.
"The government should take immediate steps to control stray dogs and protect citizens," local residents said.
Health officials warned that dog bites remain a serious public health issue, particularly because of the risk of rabies, a disease that is almost always fatal once symptoms develop.
According to available data, 11 people have died from rabies-related complications so far this year, highlighting the need for improved vaccination coverage, timely treatment and stronger measures to control the stray dog population.
Medical experts continue to advise dog-bite victims to seek immediate medical attention and complete the prescribed course of anti-rabies vaccination to prevent infection.
