The moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan on Monday, following deliberations by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The announcement was made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Abdul Khabir Azad after reviewing reports received from across the country.
According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the new moon was not sighted, and therefore the 1st of Muharram 1448 AH will fall on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had met earlier in the day to assess moon-sighting testimonies and meteorological data before reaching its decision.
With the announcement, the Islamic New Year will officially begin on June 17, while religious observances associated with Muharram will be held according to the revised calendar across the country.
Provincial governments and relevant authorities are expected to implement security and administrative arrangements for Muharram processions and gatherings in line with the announced dates.
