PM, cabinet members visit GHQ: Army chief reiterates resolve to come up to nation’s expectations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with key cabinet members visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, ISPR said on Friday,

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir received the PM who was also presented guard of honour, the military media wing said, adding that the prime minister laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada to pay tribute to the heroes.

PM Shehbaz, cabinet members and the military leadership also deliberated upon national security, regional stability and military preparedness, the ISPR maintained.

It said the visiting dignitaries were briefed on the current security environment, threat spectrum, response to the security threats and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

PM and cabinet members praised the professionalism, operational readiness, and sacrifices of the army in the war against terrorism, the ISPR said, adding that they commended the dedication of the army to safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity and ensuring peace and stability.

The prime minister assured that the government will provide all the resources required to ensure the operational readiness of the armed forces.

He said Pakistan is destined to rise and the role of the Armed Forces in ensuring the peaceful rise of Pakistan cannot be over-emphasized.

The COAS thanked the PM for the visit and reposing confidence in the army. The COAS affirmed that the army will continue coming up to the nation’s expectations and will firmly support the government in coping with security challenges facing Pakistan.
