Senate session begins under chair of Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani . Pakistan People's Party's Waqar Mehdi takes oath as Senator, chairman administered the oath to Waqar Mehdi.
Opposition leader Senator Shibli Faraz addressing the session congratulated Waqar Mehdi o being elected as Senate from Sindh.
On the occasion, he questioned that the government was not holding elections on vacant seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He demanded that KP’s representation in Senate was legal requirement.
On the occasion, Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar told the Senate that the case of election on Senate reserve seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa currently was in the apex court, and it has been fixed for hearing next week.
The minster said that due to slow response of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the election process of reserve seats in the Senate was delayed.
Commenting on the orders of the day, the minister said that the government has reduced the tariff of power and give the relief to the public around Rs 10 per unit during the last two months.
The law minister said that the incumbent regime was taking various steps for the development of power industry to provide maximum relief to the masses.
He said Captive power plants have earned more profit than their cost therefore government has decided to impose a levy on them after due consideration.
Law Minister claimed that poor people were also taken into accounts while making policies, adding that PML-N government had reduced electricity prices by 34 percent. He said in the last 60 days, they have reduced electricity prices by Rs 10 per unit. He said Prime Minister has decided that now the benefits will reach the poor people.
