A 48-year-old Indian Sikh woman, Sarbjit Kaur, who had come to Pakistan as part of a pilgrimage for Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday, has embraced Islam and married a Pakistani citizen, Naseer Hussain, in Sheikhupura.
Following her conversion, she adopted the Islamic name Noor.
According to court records, the marriage took place on 5 November 2025 in Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, with a dower of Rs 10,000, which has already been paid.
Noor appeared before Judicial Magistrate Shahbaz Hassan Rana, stating that she had freely chosen to convert to Islam and marry Hussain without any pressure or coercion.
She reaffirmed her decision to live with her husband.
Sarbjit Kaur had arrived in Pakistan on 4 November with a group of Sikh pilgrims but did not return with them on 13 November, when their visit ended and her visa expired.
Her disappearance prompted a search by police and intelligence agencies, which later revealed that she had married a Pakistani citizen.
Represented by Ahmad Hassan Pasha, a member of the Sheikhupura District Bar, Noor told the court that she made her decision independently.
The marriage certificate lists her as a divorced woman and mother of two children.
Whether she will be repatriated to India or allowed to stay in Pakistan will be determined by the relevant law enforcement authorities.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the top body of Sikhs, sends a delegation of pilgrims to Pakistan every year to pay tribute at the historic gurudwaras, especially on Guru Nanak's Prakash Parv.
The Indian government had allowed the Sikh devotees to undertake the 10-day pilgrimage to the Nankana Sahib shrine in Pakistan in October.
