Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Noman Ali has achieved a historic milestone, surpassing a 37-year-old national record previously held by the legendary leg spinner Abdul Qadir, 24NewsHD TV reported on Wednesday.
Noman has now taken 46 wickets in five consecutive Test matches—a feat unmatched by any Pakistani bowler in the game’s longest format.
His record-breaking run came between his 16th and 20th Tests, eclipsing Abdul Qadir’s tally of 44 wickets, which the iconic leg-spinner had claimed between his 48th and 52nd Tests during 1987–88.
The 37-year-old spinner’s stellar form has also earned him the distinction of being the most successful spinner in world cricket over the past 12 months, reflecting his consistency, accuracy, and mastery of conditions.
Noman’s golden run includes 10 wickets against South Africa in Lahore, 16 wickets across two Tests against the West Indies earlier this year, and 20 wickets during the home series against England, where he claimed 11 wickets in Multan and 9 in Rawalpindi.
It is pertinent to mention that the hosts outclassed the Proteas to take a 1–0 lead in the series, defending a target of 277 and bowling out the visitors for 183.
With this record, Noman Ali cements his place among Pakistan’s finest spinners, following in the footsteps of greats like Abdul Qadir, Saeed Ajmal, and Yasir Shah, while charting a new chapter in the country’s rich spin-bowling legacy.
