Pakistan is preparing to formally object to the appointment of Zimbabwean official Andy Pycroft as match referee for the upcoming home series against South Africa, sources confirmed on Monday.
The bilateral series, scheduled to begin next month, features two Test matches, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The series is of critical importance for both teams as they seek to consolidate their positions in the ICC rankings across all formats.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed strong reservations about Pycroft’s potential assignment.
According to sources, Pakistan has made it clear that it will not accept his appointment.
The final authority regarding the appointment of match officials, including referees and umpires, rests with the International Cricket Council (ICC), which is expected to announce its panel in the coming days.
The ICC has consistently emphasized its commitment to ensuring neutrality and upholding international standards during high-profile fixtures.
Pakistan’s objection stems from alleged misconduct by Pycroft during the Asia Cup clash between India and Pakistan in Dubai.
The PCB has accused him of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and contravening the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Laws related to the Spirit of Cricket.
In its complaint, the board demanded Pycroft’s immediate removal from the tournament.
