As Pakistan and South Africa prepare to lock horns in a much-anticipated women’s ODI series in Sri Lanka, the captains of both sides expressed confidence and optimism during their pre-series press conferences at Ghaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Monday.
Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana said her team is determined to play competitive cricket and take advantage of the home conditions.
“We will try to play good cricket. Sri Lankan conditions are quite similar to Pakistan’s, and we are preparing ourselves accordingly,” she noted.
Fatima added that while the team does not rely on specialized power-hitting training, all players are working hard in regular practice sessions.
Reflecting on South Africa’s strong performance during their previous tour, she said Pakistan had gained valuable lessons and would look to adapt quickly this time.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, praised Pakistan’s preparation and acknowledged the importance of the series for both teams in the build-up to the Women’s World Cup.
“Pakistan’s team is well-prepared. This series is very important for us before the World Cup.”
She hailed Pakistan spinners as a real challenge ahead of their ODI series opener.
She further lauded Pakistan’s blend of talent, saying, “Pakistan has good batters and bowlers. The conditions in Sri Lanka will also benefit both sides.”
Wolvaardt added that her squad is enjoying Pakistan’s hospitality and stressed that success in the series would boost South Africa’s morale heading into the World Cup.
