Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to peace in the region, claiming a significant diplomatic role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking during the weekly briefing on international and national matters on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan had played an important part in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
The FO spokesperson stated that these efforts contributed to a ceasefire between the two countries.
Andrabi noted that the Prime Minister was actively involved in the process leading to the talks, which he described as crucial in reducing hostilities.
He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently on official visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.
The spokesperson further said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with his team, also worked to support the arrangement of negotiations.
According to him, Pakistan remained engaged at multiple diplomatic levels to encourage dialogue. During the mediation efforts, the prime minister received telephone calls from leaders of various countries, Andrabi said.
He added that the international community had acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace.
The Foreign Office maintained that Pakistan remains committed to playing a constructive role in ensuring stability and reducing conflict in the region.
The spokesperson regarding the next round of the Islamabad Talks, negotiations between the United States and Iran, said: "Who will come, how big the delegation will be, who will stay and who will go is for the parties to decide. As a mediator, it was important for us to keep the talks confidential. We have the details and information of the talks entrusted to us by the negotiating parties."
He added that under the leadership of the prime minister and the field marshal, Pakistan kept the channels of communication open with the parties, and in the continuation of it, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Iran on a visit yesterday.
Answering a question, he strongly condemned Israeli aggression and attacks in Lebanon.
