Punjab govt nods to provision of new electric buses in 10 districts

The Punjab government has approved to provide new electric buses in 10 districts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

A special meeting, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was briefed that electric buses will be provided in Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Layyah, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin and Okara.

As many as 100 electric buses will reach Punjab this month, 350 by mid-May and 264 by the end of June.

A special bus depot will be established for electric buses in each division.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has sought a plan to operate 1500 electric buses at the tehsil level.

Meeting reviewed progress on mass transit system project in Gujranwala and Faisalabad.

Progress report on first e-taxi scheme in Punjab was presented in the meeting according to which 194 in May and 208 e-taxis will come in June.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed to complete construction and renovation of Metrobus Station soon and approved new design as well.

Installation of new and modern bus station in Lahore under “Empower Her” project was also reviewed in the meeting.

The meeting gave in-principle approval of e-bike project for government employees.

The meeting was briefed that millions of passengers benefitted from 21 routes under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's free transport with 3560 bus trips.
