Wohaib Club, Chuburji, delivered an impressive performance on the opening day of the Lahore District Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Championship, securing two gold medals at the A.R.T Club.
The championship, organised under the supervision of the Lahore District Weight Lifting Association in collaboration with the Walled City of Lahore Authority, was formally inaugurated by Deputy Directors Munazza and Asher, who attended the ceremony as chief guests.
According to Sohail Javed Butt, volunteer media coordinator of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, Wohaib Club dominated the early contests with strong performances across categories.
In the 60kg category, Sameer Khan of Wohaib Club lifted a total of 212kg to secure the gold medal. Aziz Sarwar of Hajvery Club claimed silver with a total of 190kg, while Lal Ali of A.R.T Club finished third with 167kg.
Wohaib Club continued its dominance in the 65kg category, where Taimoor lifted an impressive total of 225kg to claim the second gold medal for his club. Noman of A.R.T Club secured silver with a total of 173kg, followed by his clubmate Fardeen, who took bronze with 170kg.
The opening ceremony was attended by several prominent figures from the local sports community, including Prof Muhammad Azhar, Aqeel Javed Butt, Qaisar Iftikhar, Abdullah Idrees Butt, Javed Asghar, Abdul Sattar Rahi, Adeeb Akram, Kashif Hanif Butt, Kashif Barkat and Muhammad Zahoor.
The men’s competitions continued late into the night, while the women’s events are scheduled to commence on Friday at 2:30pm, featuring participation from female weightlifters across Lahore.
