Police in North Karachi have claimed to have shot dead five members of Corolla Gang of dacoits allegedly in an encounter while two managed to escape from the scene, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Giving details, SHO Sir Syed police station Shahid Taj has said that the dacoits, who came in a car, entered a house in 11-B in North Karachi and held the inmates hostage at gunpoint.
They even subjected members of the family to torture, he further said, adding as soon as the cops arrived at the scene, the dacoits opened fire at them as well.
Resultantly, the SHO added, the cops retaliated, resulting in the deaths of five intruders. “The robbers appeared to be Afghan nationals,” he said.
Meanwhile, one dacoit was managed to escape from the scene in their car while another hid inside the house and waited for six hours after the police action to escape.
Youth killed while resisting dacoity bid in Karachi
A youth was killed when he resisted a robbery bid near a PSO petrol pump on Sharae Faisal in the jurisdiction of Tipu Sultan police station in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh told media that two ‘robbers’ mounted on a bike intercepted a motorcyclist and asked him to hand over the valuables. “And when he offered resistance, the dacoits opened fire at him, resulting in his instant death,” the SSP said, adding, “The assassins, however, managed to flee from the spot.”
Two ‘dacoits’ arrested in Karachi
Meanwhile, in a joint intelligence-based operation in Karachi, Pakistan Rangers Sindh and the police arrested two members of a gang of dacoits wanted by the law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) in connection with a number of robberies in Orangi Town area of the city.
Sindh Rangers spokesman said that stolen cellphones and motorcycles were also recovered from the dacoits namely Salman alias Goga and Ahmad alias Immi.
“The suspects had snatched a motorbike from a man at Zainab mobile market in Orangi Town in July this year,” he said, adding, “CCTV footage of the incident that went viral on social media enabled the LEAs to get to the culprits.”
The spokesman disclosed that during initial interrogation, those arrested had confessed to have snatched 170 cellphones and more than Rs0.1 million in cash in over 50 robberies committed in Orangi Town, SITE Town and the surrounding areas.
He informed that raids were being conducted for the arrest of their accomplices.
4 dacoits injured in Super Highway encounter
In yet another encounter in the port city, four dacoits were injured when they exchanged fire with the police in SITE area on the Super Highway.
SP Sohrab Goth Chaudhry Sohail Faiz told media that the police reached the crime scene on the complaint of a citizen. “On seeing the cops, the dacoits resorted to firing,” he said, adding, “After a fierce encounter, police succeeded in arresting total seven suspects, including four injured ones.
He said a motorcycle, four pistols and bullets were recovered from those taken into custody. “However, one outlaw managed to flee from the spot,” he revealed.
