Taylor Swift has reportedly cut ties with her longtime friend Blake Lively, with fans convinced her upcoming album features a diss track about the Hollywood star.
The pop icon, 35, announced her 11th studio record, The Life of a Showgir,l on August 13, teasing a track titled Ruin the Friendship. The song title alone has fueled speculation online that Swift has turned her pen against Lively, 37, marking a shocking twist in their once enviable friendship.
According to People, a source close to the stars confirmed that “Taylor and Blake aren’t speaking,” as tensions between the two have quietly unravelled behind the scenes.
The fallout reportedly traces back to Blake’s high-profile feud with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni. Court documents revealed Lively had attempted to persuade Swift to issue a public statement in her defence, and even delete text messages that could have complicated the case.
Despite Swift’s refusal to intervene, Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaed her, dragging the singer into a lawsuit she wanted no part of. Although the filing was later withdrawn, insiders claim Swift was left feeling “exploited” and decided to distance herself from the drama.
Swifties, known for decoding the singer’s cryptic lyrics, immediately zeroed in on Ruin the Friendship as a potential nod to her rift with Blake. On social media, theories exploded that the song chronicles the unravelling of their relationship, with one fan posting: “This has to be about Blake – there’s no way it isn’t.”
Another wrote: “Taylor doesn’t just drop a title like Ruin the Friendship unless she wants us to know exactly who it’s about.”
While Swift has appeared to downplay the rumours during an appearance on New Heights with boyfriend Travis Kelce, stressing the album had been written during her Eras Tour in Europe.
The friendship once seemed unshakable. Swift is godmother to Lively’s eldest daughter, James and famously included her voice on the track Gorgeous from Reputation. The couple’s three daughters were also name-checked in Swift’s Folklore, cementing the bond between the superstar and the Reynolds-Lively household.
But that bond now appears fractured. Sources claim Swift has “iced Blake out” of her inner circle, while her NFL beau Travis Kelce recently unfollowed Blake’s husband Ryan Reynolds on Instagram, a subtle move fans were quick to clock.
