A large quantity of government medicines belonging to Gujranwala Teaching Hospital has reportedly been recovered from a private warehouse, raising concerns over theft within the Punjab Health Department, 24NewsHD TV reported.

According to sources, the government medicines were allegedly being diverted for sale in the open market.

Following the discovery, the hospital’s assistant professor, medical officer and pharmacist were suspended.

A storekeeper and ward cleaner were also suspended, with all five employees directed to report to the Health Department.

The authorities have formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the alleged theft and determine how the government medicines were removed from the hospital and stored at a private facility.
