Police and Rangers have so far rescued 14, out of 19 people, held captive by dacoits in Ubauro, while the body of one of the passengers has been recovered as the operation continues in the katcha area to rescue the remaining five captives, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Police said that one of the passengers died due to heart attack.
Those who were rescued included Zulfiqar, Abdul Nabi, Umair, Syed Ali Imad and Feroze Farhan.
Dacoits had looted a bus, heading from Sadiqabad to Quetta, and then kidnapped the passengers.
Earlier, 24News TV channel had reported that the Sindh Police had rescued 10 of the 19 passengers, abducted by armed robbers from a Quetta-bound bus in Ghotki district following an encounter in the riverine area of Somiani.
According to the incident, which took place near Obaro town when a passenger bus travelling from Sadiqabad to Quetta was intercepted on the Guddu Link Road by dozens of armed dacoits.
After looting the passengers, the attackers abducted 19 men and fled the scene, leaving the women passengers behind.
District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Obaro said the hostages were recovered after a gunfight between police and the robbers.
He added that the area was cordoned off following the exchange of fire, and a search operation was launched to track down the remaining suspects.
Police officials said that some of the rescued passengers sustained injuries during the attack and were shifted to medical facilities for treatment.
A total of 29 people, including women, were on board the bus at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses told police that the assailants were present in large numbers and were equipped with modern weapons, creating panic among the passengers.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, police and Rangers reached the site and sealed off the surrounding area.
Initially, authorities said that some passengers were missing and may have taken refuge in nearby sugarcane fields out of fear, which delayed confirmation of the kidnappings.
Security forces continue to conduct operations in the area to recover the remaining abducted passengers and apprehend those responsible.
