A resolution marking December 16 as a black day in Pakistan’s history was submitted in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Whip Rana Arshad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the text of the resolution, the House reiterated that December 16, 2014, remains the darkest day in the nation’s history, recalling both the tragic terrorist attack on Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar and the fall of Dhaka.
The resolution stated that the day serves as a reminder that national unity and solidarity are the only paths to overcoming trials faced by the country.
The resolution paid tribute to the innocent martyrs of the APS attack, saying their sacrifices continue to strengthen the nation’s resolve against terrorism. It also acknowledged the unparalleled sacrifices made by Pakistan’s armed forces and the people of the country in efforts to eliminate terrorism and extremism.
Emphasising collective responsibility, the resolution said the tragedy of Dhaka underlines the importance of national cohesion in safeguarding Pakistan’s integrity. It urged the nation to move forward together by setting aside personal, political and group differences in the larger national interest.
The House also noted that international leaders have paid tribute to the leadership and vision of former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The resolution stated that decisive actions taken by the then prime minister, along with the armed forces, and continued by the current leadership, helped stabilise the situation in the country.
An appeal was made to the youth to promote unity, stand in solidarity with the armed forces, and face national challenges with courage and wisdom. The resolution also paid tribute to Field Marshal Hafiz General Asim Munir and the armed forces for their bravery, referring to their role in foiling terrorist threats, saving lives, and eliminating militants.
The resolution concluded by stressing that Pakistan belongs to all its citizens and that ensuring its development and stability is a shared responsibility. It ended with a prayer for the continued protection and prosperity of the country.
