A PTI delegation Thursday night met Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) chief Fazlur Rehman to muster the latter’s support for the former’s candidate for the premiership, sources said on Thursday evening.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman welcomed the PTI delegation which was led by the former National Assembly Asad Qaiser.  The ongoing political situation and election results came under discussion during the meeting.

According to the sources, the PTI delegation conveyed the message of the party founder to Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Following the meeting, the leaders of both parties addressed a press conference and described the election as 'unfair'.

“JUI and PTI agree that the elections were not transparent,” JUI leader Hafiz Hamdullah said.

He added: “The JUI rejects rigged elections. The February 8 elections were fake."

Barrister Saif said: “The mandate of the people was stolen. The nation and political parties do not accept this election. The PTI has announced a protest on Saturday. The demonstration will continue until the people get their right."

In an informal conversation with the 24NewsHD TV channel earlier, the JUI chief revealed that ex-COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa and former ISI DG were behind bringing the no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan. “The no-confidence motion was brought at the behest of the then Army Chief and ISI DG.”

He added: “General Faiz Hameed came to me to make me lead the movement within the system. I refused ... when all the political parties came together, I became a supporter.

“Bajwa Sahib and General Faiz Hameed urged all political parties to bring in the no-confidence motion

“In the presence of Mr Bajwa and Faiz, all the political parties agreed on the no-confidence motion.

Earlier in the day,  The PTI nominated the party’s secretary general Omar Ayub as its candidate for the prime minister’s slot.

Asad Qaiser said that Omar Ayub would be the party’s candidate for the PM post.

Asad Qaiser said that he was given an 'assignment' to engage with all political parties, specifically mentioning JUI-F, ANP and QWP.

“We want we all to form a strategy against the mandate that was stolen. This was the worst and most rigged election in our history,” he said, adding that polls lacked 'credibility'.
