The Utility Stores Corporation Employees Union decided to hold a protest outside its head office located in Blue Area Islamabad at 2 pm for reinstatement of terminated daily-wages employees, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The employees said that protest demonstrations will be held outside press clubs across Pakistan.
The office-bearers further demanded that if the termination letters were not withdrawn, then they would decide their future strategy.
They further warned the government the entire utility stores will be shut if their demands were not met.
Earlier on Saturday, the government has decided to lay off daily wage employees from utility stores across the country as part of its "rightsizing" policy
The move, which affects an estimated 2,500 to 2,600 workers, was approved earlier by the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) board of directors.
According to sources, directives for terminating employees have already been issued by the respective zonal offices, signalling the start of the downsizing process.
