Australia’s legendary cricketer and former captain Michael Clarke has strongly criticised Pakistan’s senior players following their crushing defeat to India in the ICC T20 World Cup, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
Pakistan once again suffered a one-sided loss to India in the tournament, drawing sharp reactions not only from fans but also from former cricketers and analysts worldwide.
Media reports suggest that former players from both Pakistan and India, along with several foreign cricketers, have pointed out the shortcomings of Pakistan’s senior stars, indicating that their era may have come to an end.
Reacting to the defeat, Clarke said he was unsure what plans Pakistan had put in place but believed the tournament represented the final World Cup opportunity for some of the team’s experienced players.
“For a few of Pakistan’s senior players, this was their last World Cup and their last chance,” he remarked.
Clarke further observed that the gap between the two sides has widened significantly.
“There is a huge difference between the two teams. India has been well ahead of Pakistan for some time now, and that gap has only grown,” he said.
The former Australian skipper added that while some senior Pakistani players had performed well in the past, T20 cricket demands a different level of intensity and adaptability.
He advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to look towards younger talent, suggesting that the Pakistan Super League could serve as a platform to identify and groom new performers for the national side.
