Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar on Friday succeeded in distancing the federal government from the burning issue of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan’s meetings with family members as the Senate echoed with the cries of “political vengeance”, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During proceedings chaired by PPP Senator Sherry Rehman, PTI’s Falak Naz Chitrali said there has been no access to the PTI founder for the last two months.
Speaking on a point of order, Chitrali said meetings with family was a fundamental right of every prisoner.
Senator Ali Zafar said there were three court verdicts allowing meetings but the government is not implementing court orders. “I don’t know why. This is all political vengeance,” he said.
In response, Law Minister Tarar said the federal government has nothing to do with this issue as it did not fall under its jurisdiction. “It’s a matter between court and the prison authorities and Adiala Jail is under the control of Punjab government,” he added.
The minister, however, said he will present a report in Senate in this regard soon.
Meanwhile, the Upper House was informed that the government is taking concrete measures to empower the youth under Benazir Hunarmand Programme.
Responding to a question, Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah said BISP beneficiaries who relocate to another district may update their records by submitting a Change-of-Address form at the nearest BISP office.
The Senate passed the Transfer of Railways Amendment Bill, 2025. While, the three bills were laid before the House.
These included: The Travel Agencies (Amendment) Bill 2026; The Pakistan Tourist Guides (Amendment) Bill 2026 and The Pakistan Hotels and Restaurants (Amendment) Bill 2026.
The Chair referred the bills to the Standing Committees concerned.
The House also passed a resolution paying tribute to late Senator Brig (r) John Kenneth Williams who passed away on 23rd of December last year.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Senator Abid Sher Ali took the oath of office today. The chair administered the oath to him.
Earlier, at the outset, the House observed one minute of silence for those who died in G-7, Islamabad gas leak explosion.
The House has now been adjourned to meet again on Monday at 04:00 PM.
